The Indian Health Service (IHS), an agency within the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), provides patient-centered health services to 2.2 million American Indians and Alaska Natives through a network of hospitals, clinics and public outreach programs across the continental United States and Alaska.
IHS offers pharmacists extraordinary opportunities to participate in high-performing, interdisciplinary teams providing care to an underserved patient population. You’ll choose from three possible career paths: civil service, within Tribal or Urban Indian Programs or through the US Public Health Service (USPHS) Commissioned Corps.
You’ll live and work within Indian health communities rich in culture and steeped in tradition, and enjoy a structured but flexible work schedule — with ample opportunities for outdoor recreational pursuits in some of the most beautiful areas of the country.
Our pharmacists are also eligible to apply for the IHS Loan Repayment Program which repays eligible health profession educational loans up to $40,000 in exchange for an initial two-year service commitment at an eligible IHS facility. Contracts can be extended annually until all qualified student debt is paid.
The policy of the IHS is to provide absolute preference to qualified Indian applicants and employees who are suitable for federal employment in filling vacancies within the IHS. IHS is an equal opportunity employer.
